Oʻahu neighborhood guide · North Oʻahu

Living on the North Shore

Legendary winter surf, calm summer swims, Haleʻiwa's small-town charm, and wide-open country. Here's what life on Oʻahu's North Shore is really like.

What it's like to live on the North Shore

The North Shore stretches from Mokulēʻia and Waialua through Haleʻiwa and Sunset Beach to Kahuku. Winter brings world-famous waves to Waimea Bay, Pipeline, and Sunset, while summer turns many of the same beaches calm. Life here is slower and more rural, with farms, food trucks, and Haleʻiwa town at the center. Homes are scarce and prices vary a lot, from inland houses in Waialua to oceanfront estates.
