If you grew up a military kid like me, you already know the drill. Every few years: new orders, packing your whole life into boxes, and moving into yet another rental. I never had that one place to call home. For the longest time, owning a house felt like something only "other people" got to do. Real talk: back then, I didn't even know what the word escrow meant!

Then I got into real estate and learned how homeownership actually works. And y'all… it hit me right in my chest.

My parents sacrificed so much and served this country. But the truth is, my family could have owned a home at every single one of those duty stations! With a VA loan, my mom and dad could have been building real wealth and equity the entire time. But nobody ever told them. Not a single person pulled them aside to show them what was possible.

That broke my heart. But it also lit a fire in my soul that will NEVER go out!

When Rolando and I bought our first home, a condo right on the Ala Wai in Waikīkī, we chose to bet on our future. And when we sold it? The equity we built literally carried us straight into our forever home in Kapolei!
